South Florida Water Management District Big Cypress Basin Field Station
Owner: South Florida Water Management District
Size: 21,281 SF
Delivery: Progressive Design-Build
Description: Bentley provided Architectural and Structural Engineering design services for a new 21,281 SF operations center. This project includes an administration building which houses administrative offices and a hardened emergency operations control room, maintenance/service/storage open bay area for vehicle maintenance and general maintenance and fabrication activities; chemical storage building, covered equipment parking with tie-downs, paved storage area/parking and driveways; refueling island, laydown yard for large items, and several other ancillary facilities. The site for the project was located in a planned development, with very strict requirements for landscaping and maintaining existing vegetation. This facility will be used by South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) staff to service stormwater drainage facilities and equipment in their service area. This new location replaces a very dated and worn facility, provides much needed service capability, and locates the SFWMD staff closer to the facilities they maintain, thus improving operational efficiency.
This project was designed and constructed using Progressive Design-Build delivery. SFWMD’s schedule was very rigid, and did not change
throughout the duration of the project. Bentley worked closely with our design team and construction contractor partner to make timely
permit submissions to keep the project on schedule, studied owner design and product requests with the contractor to keep the project within budget, and reviewed constructability alternatives to improve the completed product. The project was delivered on schedule within the owner’s budget.
